Nearly thirty Plant projects have been certified LEED for Homes Platinum or Gold, including the first home ever to achieve Platinum certification. Plant projects have garnered significant industry recognition including the AIA’s top sustainability award, Architizer’s Jury and People Choice Awards, Green Builder Magazine’s Home of Year, Business 2.0’s ‘World’s 11 Coolest Products,’ and Businessweek’s “Architectural Wonders of the World.”

Job Summary
Plant is looking to expand its executive leadership team with an experienced chief financial officer (CFO). We are seeking a candidate who has been on the leadership team of an early stage, high-growth company and helped that company scale revenue quickly while achieving profitability. The CFO will be a close and trusted business partner to the CEO and President, intimately involved in corporate strategy, and a key leader who drives expansion as Plant continues to grow and achieve significantly greater market penetration nationally. The position can be based in our Santa Monica, CA office or our Rialto, CA headquarters.

Core Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the Founder/CEO to raise capital in both private and public markets to support scaling.

  • Ensure the company is enabled to meets its financial commitment and manage cash flow in an efficient manner.

  • Prepare and present company’s financial reports for current and prospective shareholders and operating units in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Independently source, close, and manage strategic investment and business corporate financial development relationships.

  • Develop, manage, and maintain all corporate financial planning and analysis processes including long-term strategic planning, budgeting, and financing for capital equipment and manufacturing facilities.

  • Be an operational partner to the President/COO and to all business functions, helping to achieve corporate objectives and key results as well as developing programs for efficiency and cost reduction to grow revenue and gross margins.

  • Provide strong leadership as a member of the executive team including strategic vision and tactical execution to drive revenue growth and profitability.

  • Build and manage a world-class finance and accounting team that compliments the CFO’s skillsets and assure all financial, accounting, liquidity, and risk management requirements of the organization are met.

  • Implement and supervise the year-end audit and taxation strategy.

  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations.

  • Establish and maintain contacts with financial investors, financial institutions, commercial and investments banks, and the investment community.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate will be a highly intelligent leader, with a passion to create homes that improve the quality of living for all people and the planet. Furthermore, we seek:

  • A 10 to 15-year track record in a financial leadership position driving a business through high growth, with hands-on experience in manufacturing, construction, or residential homebuilding highly preferred

  • A track record of success securing various forms of capital in public and private markets (e.g., equity, debt) to help scale the business in the most capital-efficient way possible

  • A strong leader with the intellectual honesty, open mindedness, and rigor to defend their strategic direction and support it with data while considering the position of others

  • An understated confidence evidenced by approachability, appreciation for all levels of an organization, and a calm composure even when faced with stress or confrontation

  • A track record of working with a President and Chief Operating Officer, and his reports, to help “operationalize the finance function” and drive greater modeling, processes, and procedures that take into consideration financial data within the organization

  • A clearly evident capability built upon a long track record of integrity and professionalism that is worthy of trust with infallible ethical standards

  • A deep intellectual capacity and curiosity

  • An ability and willingness to raise issues and drive resolution on topics, popular or unpopular, in the best interests of the company

  • A desire to lead more than manage, to coach more than supervise, and to create an environment where employees develop into competitive assets

  • A willingness to prioritize building a cohesive, world-class company and culture over individual functional success

  • Demonstrated leadership in high-value negotiations in both win-win and win-lose scenarios with suppliers, partners, customers, and government entities

  • Experience in evaluating, managing, and growing corporate partnerships and joint venture agreements

  • A high standard for written and oral communications
