Custom-Designed Homes by Metro Architects Constructed in San Bernardino Factory During Bay Area Construction Moratorium

RIALTO, California – July 16, 2020: Plant Prefab, the first prefabricated residential design and construction company dedicated to sustainable building, materials, processes and operations, installed a 11,054-square-foot, four-unit townhome development in Los Gatos, CA over the course of just three days on July 13-15. The residences are a prime example of how the Plant Building System enables the construction of custom, high-quality homes faster and more efficiently than traditional, site-based methods.

“We’re proud to be delivering reliable and sustainable building solutions to the Bay Area, helping to provide much-needed housing stock for California communities more efficiently,” says Steve Glenn, Founder and CEO of Plant Prefab. “It was a pleasure working with Metro Architects on these beautifully-designed homes.”

The townhomes range in size from 2,650 to 2,902 square feet, each with three bedrooms and four bathrooms. Modern, upscale design and underground parking caters to the Silicon Valley lifestyle, while thoughtful architectural details provide accessibility for multigenerational families and disabled residents. A slanted roof enables rainwater collection and optimal performance for solar panels. Natural wood and stone finishes create warmth and ensure that the new development blends seamlessly with surrounding residential architecture.

“Building with Plant Prefab allowed us to significantly reduce disruption to the neighborhood,” said project developer Jordan Castillo. “Building offsite also meant that we could work on the site and structure simultaneously. This was particularly beneficial in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.”

Though the pandemic delayed site work, construction of the townhomes was able to continue as scheduled at Plant’s Rialto, CA facility. The homes were built to the architect’s exact specifications and placed in storage until the site work was completed, contributing to the overall efficiency of the construction process.

Plant prefabricated each of the four custom residences as four fully volumetric Plant Modules, complete with all finishes and fixtures in place. By installing plumbing and electrical systems, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, millwork, tile, and appliances in the Plant factory, costly on-site finish work will be kept to a minimum. Smartly-designed utility connections and precision prefabrication, both signature elements of the Plant Building System, facilitated the efficient, three-day installation.

Every Plant Prefab home is built in the company’s own 62,000-square-foot, purpose-built, custom homebuilding factory to exacting quality standards, following a rigorous sustainability program that minimizes the negative impact on energy, water, indoor air quality, and material resources. The efficient, offsite process saves Plant clients time, money, and months of neighborhood disruption from construction noise and traffic.

Note to editors: Plant Prefab is complying with all California state control measures for COVID-19, including training and enforcement of special procedures that include, but are not limited to, social distancing, symptom checking, strict hygiene, and increased sanitation measures.
