Plant Prefab Introduces New LivingHome Designs Created by Award-winning Plant Design Studio
RIALTO, California – March 4, 2020: Plant Prefab, the first prefabricated residential design and construction company dedicated to sustainable building, materials, processes and operations, is pleased to unveil three new standard home designs, the LivingHome 9, 11 and 12. The new designs, which range from a farmhouse-style structure to a modernist townhouse designed for the Los Angeles City Small Lot Ordinance (SLO) zoning, are all created by Plant Prefab’s acclaimed in-house design team, the Plant Design Studio. The debut of these new designs coincide with the launch of Plant Prefab’s newly revamped website, featuring a unique online, real-time three-dimensional configurator tool, the first of its kind for a home builder. These introductions follow the recent launch of the Plant Building System (PBS), a patented, component-based process for more efficient design and construction and the convenient voice-controlled smart home experiences with Alexa that will now come standard in every LivingHome, including the new LivingHomes 9, 11, and 12.
“We’re really excited about these new LivingHomes,” states Plant Prefab CEO, Steve Glenn. “Not only do these expand our offerings to prospective homebuyers, but each of these designs is a great representation of the versatility and wide range of customization capabilities of Plant’s standard LivingHomes. With our newly redesigned website, users can create the home of their dreams, selecting the size, finishes and even smart home devices of their choosing.”
New LivingHome Designs
Drawing from more than a decade of specialized experience in designing for prefabrication, Plant Design Studio helps Plant clients create custom, single-family and multi-family homes and accessory dwelling units (ADUs). The studio also provides advisory services to outside architects and developers for custom construction projects at Plant and oversees the development of all standard LivingHomes which can be found on plantprefab.com under “Services.” Plant Design Studio’s latest introductions, LivingHome 9, 11, 12, are now available for purchase directly on Plant Prefab’s website.
LivingHome 9 home is a three bedroom, two and a half bath home which is a modernist redux of the classic American farmhouse. Designed to meet the constraints of urban infill, the LivingHome 9 adopts country living for the urban environment in an efficient, compact footprint.
At 1,792 square feet, the home includes a private master balcony off the back and a private balcony over the garage off the front bedrooms, two-car garage, walk-in closets, vaulted ceilings, to name a few of the features. Traditional design elements like a pitched roofline and shutters are updated with more durable, low-maintenance materials, while modern design details like sliding glass doors are added for more outdoor living.
Designed for the Los Angeles City Small Lot Ordinance (SLO), the LivingHome 11 only requires a lot width of 18 feet while offering a spacious 1,800 square feet of living space. In fact, Multiple units of the LivingHome 11 can be combined as mirrored units or side by side neatly on one new SLO lot to create a cohesive community of smart, sustainable residences.
The home features three floors with an integrated garage and bedroom suite on the ground floor, open plan living and dining room with spacious kitchen on the second level and two bedrooms and two full baths on the third floor, laundry and lots of storage.
The three bedroom, two bath LivingHome 12 offers a modern take on a traditional New England extended Farmhouse design.
The pitched roof allows for high ceilings and lots of light in the kitchen, living, and dining area, all while providing a sloped roof , perfect for attaching solar panels. The home also features sloping ceilings, open living areas and an interior courtyard.
Like all LivingHomes, each of the new models are designed in accordance with Z6, Plant’s strict framework for health and sustainability. The proprietary program builds on the United States Green Building Council’s LEED standards, and strives to achieve “zero” in six key metrics: energy, water, emissions, carbon, waste, and ignorance. The comprehensive program ensures that every LivingHome is responsibly built, healthy, extremely energy-efficient, and able to achieve net zero energy use if the buyer pursues all available efficiency features (e.g., solar electricity and low-flow plumbing fixtures).
New Plant Prefab Website
A new, real-time, three-dimensional design tool on Plant Prefab’s revamped website allows users to virtually tour many of the home designs and customize it with a variety of interior and exterior finishes, add the desired additional smart home technology, and then share their designs via social media. The real-time configurator is the first of its kind offered to consumers by a homebuilder and is available now for the LivingHome 4, 6, and 10 which can be found on plantprefab.com under “Models.” .
Buyers can personalize their LivingHome with their choice of more than 75 options for finishes, fixtures and appliances. Alexa-enabled smart home technology is also included in every LivingHome, providing best-in-class connectivity, virtual assistance, security, climate control, and energy monitoring as a standard offering.
With the LivingHome 4, for example, users can select “Customize & Explore in 3D” to begin the configurator process. They are then able to tour each room of the house. By selecting “Next,” they can select from a range of exterior siding options. Prospective home buyers can then select interior finishes, select fixture packages, choose appliance package from a range of “Base Package” to “Smart Package” and finally they can choose to add entertainment and advanced security smart home technology to add to the existing base package of smart home devices.
Following the recent introduction of Plant Building System (PBS), a component-based building system, LivingHomes are also designed for flexibility in construction. Depending on lot and site conditions, every LivingHome is designed for prefabrication as either modular units, or a combination of modular units and panels, facilitating more efficient production, delivery, and installation of the homes.
Every Plant Prefab home is built in the company’s own 62,000-square-foot, purpose-built, custom homebuilding factory to exacting quality standards, following a rigorous sustainability program that minimizes the negative impact on energy, water, indoor air quality and material resources.
