RIALTO, California – June 25, 2020: Plant Prefab, the first prefabricated residential design and construction company dedicated to sustainable building, materials, processes and operations, effected a five-hour installation of a 1,568-square-foot residence in Watsonville, CA on June 24. The custom home was constructed in Plant’s Rialto, CA factory over the past several months and shipped complete with all finishes, fixtures, and even appliances in place. The efficient construction and installation process demonstrates how Plant’s patented building system enables custom, high-quality homebuilding much faster and more reliably than traditional, site-based methods.

The Watsonville project is also a prime example of Plant’s ability to streamline the design process: Plans for the three-bed, two-bath dwelling were based off a LivingHome, the company’s award-winning standard home designs.

“The clients came to us seeking efficiency—in both time and cost,” says Plant Founder and CEO Steve Glenn. “The LivingHome 5 offered almost everything they were seeking, so we were able to meet all their design goals with just some simple modifications. The flexibility of our LivingHomes designs and Plant Building System enables us to deliver custom solutions, tailored to both the client’s desires and local code requirements, without starting from scratch.”

With the lion’s share of schematic design already complete, the clients were able to focus on the finishing touches that make the home uniquely theirs: Adding a second set of sliding-glass doors and enlarging the deck off the open-plan living area creates their ideal space for indoor-outdoor entertaining. Upgrading to a custom kitchen with a high-end range, designer hood, and Caestarstone countertops with a glass tile backsplash completes their dream chef’s kitchen. And embracing the lot’s plentiful ocean breezes to forgo air conditioning allows the use of a hydronic radiant heating system.

The home was prefabricated as three fully-volumetric Plant Modules, with fixtures, flooring, tiling, millwork, paint, and appliances in place, so costly site work will be kept to an absolute minimum. And like all Plant projects, the home was custom prefabricated in the company’s 62,000-square-foot homebuilding factory following a rigorous sustainability program that minimizes the negative impact on energy, water, indoor air quality, and material resources.

Note to editors: Plant Prefab is complying with all California state control measures for COVID-19, including training and enforcement of special procedures that include, but are not limited to, social distancing, symptom and temperature checking, strict hygiene, and increased sanitation measures.
